# Bluematter Labs

> Bluematter Labs is a product-engineering and design studio for SMEs. We embed senior engineers and designers inside small and mid-sized businesses to ship custom CRMs, ERP systems, BI dashboards for CXOs, AI agents, web apps and websites, under a Forward Deployed Engineering model adapted from Palantir for the SME band. Studios in Bangalore (IN), Oldenburg (DE) and Sydney (AU), serving clients across Australia, Germany, the United Arab Emirates, India and the United States.

Every engagement is fixed-price and scoped after a 30-minute brief. We don't publish rate cards; pricing varies materially by scope, integrations, and timezone overlap. On-site engagements available in Sydney, Melbourne, Berlin, Hamburg and remote globally.

## Engagement shapes

Bluematter does not publish a public rate card. Each engagement is scoped against the customer's problem and quoted in writing after a 30-minute brief. The shapes available across practices are:

- **Workshop / Audit**: half- to two-day intensives that answer a single strategic question with a written one-pager.
- **Sprint**: 1–2 week focused engagement (research sprint, discovery sprint, behavioural audit).
- **Implement / Build / Redesign**: fixed-scope deliverables ranging from 1 week (a one-pager website) to 12 weeks (a production AI agent or custom ERP module). Quoted in writing, fixed-price.
- **Embed**: monthly retainer with a senior engineer or designer alongside the customer team. Cancel any month, no exit penalty.

## Defined terms

- **Forward Deployed Engineering (FDE)**: Working model borrowed from Palantir. Instead of bidding on a written spec, a senior engineer embeds inside the customer's team for the whole engagement, learns the business, and ships production software week by week alongside the customer's operators. Inside Bluematter, FDE is the default method for every Product Engineering engagement.
- **Service Engineering**: Bluematter's tech-advisory-plus-implementation practice. Strategy, tool selection, AI rollout, audits, migrations and website creation, all under one engagement.
- **SME band**: Small and mid-sized enterprises, typically 5–500 staff. Bluematter's sweet spot for forward-deployed work.

## Engagement model

- 30-minute discovery call replied to within one business day → written proposal within a week
- Fixed-price first sprint, milestone billing for larger builds
- On-site discovery embed where geography allows; remote thereafter
- Data processing agreement (DPA) signed before any data work for clients that require one
- Client owns the code and design files; no retainer lock-in
